In Delhi, inside Delhi University’s North campus exists Christian Colony occupied majorly by students from North east and especially students from Bihar.Plenty of them staying here, prepare for civil services and other exams. While shooting for a video, I could hear a lot of people discussing about Bihar election in the photostat shops, and students discussing about the leaders and parties while lighting their cigarettes.A few interactions here and there and I met with Sushil Singh and R K Pandey who were lawyers working in Delhi, belonging to Bihar and were staying in Christian colony for almost three years. We quickly got into a discussion about Bihar election and in next few minutes I was seated in a little room where they stayed.
Being a student of economics, and opposing Amartya Sen’s school of thought, Sushil said “Any party who has governed the state for two terms, does not have the energy for third term but if the party wins third term, then citizens do not have faith in the opposition". He further elaborated "Nitish Kumar has worked for Bihar for 10 years and he cannot work with new and innovative ways anymore, because there is no energy left in him.The state of Bihar requires a new ideology and BJP is coming with a new ideology. Unless as citizen I part my ways with old school politics or ideologies, we cannot think about development".
While listening to Sushil curiously, a slight disturbance in the conversation due to cooker’s whistle as Mr R K Pandey was preparing for their dinner inside this little room.Mr Pandey wanted to join the conversation and express his views. And so he joined the discussion immediately.Criticizing old political ideologies, he said "What has Nitish Kumar or Lalu Prasad Yadav done over these years? In an exam, if you know that first three options are not your answer to a question and there are only four options, you will mark fourth option for your answer.Simillar is the case in Bihar for this election".He further added “development cannot be done by Government alone, people also need to participate equally and people of Bihar should share the responsibility too".
While Sushil Singh belonged to Sitamarhi district , R K Pandey was from Vaishali district in Bihar. After an hour of discussion, Sushil and R K Pandey wanted the elected government should bring a change in infrastructure, law and order, ensure skill based education and people of Bihar should participate in governance. After the discussion ended, I stopped the record button on my camera and exchanged greetings and walked away.
While going back I realised that how Christian colony in Delhi gave me an insight into Bihar, the election and politics and the lives of people in Bihar.
Here is the video.
