Centre discriminating against Punjab: Badal
The Punjab CM blamed 'tardy development' during the Cong rule for the country 'lagging behind' in various fields.

Punjab: Accusing the central government of meting out step-motherly treatment to Punjab, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said it had "always discriminated" in sanctioning funds for the state.

Badal blamed "tardy development" during the Congress rule for the country "lagging behind" in various fields.

He was addressing a gathering at the concluding day of Chhinj Mela held here in the memory of Baba Bhure Wala.

Badal alleged that anti-Sikh riots in Delhi and "entering of army in Golden Temple remained biggest blot on the secular credentials of Congress which had always worked against the interests of Punjab during its rule at the Centre".

He said Congressmen under the leadership of state party chief Amarinder Singh wanted to derail smooth progress in ongoing paddy procurement but his government would not allow them to do so.

"So much so that Amarinder did not want Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to come Punjab to inaugurate Khalsa Heritage complex and Mohal International Airport," said Badal.

Badal said Amarinder was stooping to "gutter" politics by using objectionable words against his political opponents.

"There is a huge difference between me and Amarinder. I am older than him and he should avoid using such words," he said.
