Anupam Kher got emotional while speaking about his late father, Pushkarnath Kher. The actor appeared on a new podcast and spoke about numerous subjects. For the unversed, Pushkarnath Kher died in 2012.

Speaking with Shubhankar Mishra, Anupam said, “My father used to express his happiness, my father was an unusual being.” The actor revealed his father did not like air travel and preferred the rail service instead. “He would travel by train and would tell everyone that Anupam is his son. No one on the train would believe him. They would say, ‘If your son is Anupam Kher, why are you travelling on the train?'” he recalled.

“When the mobile phones were just getting accessible, he would call me at 2 am in the morning from the train and would tell, ‘See, I am telling this man that you are my son, he is refusing to believe.’ I told him, ‘Papa, it’s 2 am, don’t do all this na.’ He then handed the phone to the other person and ask me to speak with him,” Anupam shared, adding that he had to tell his films’ dialogues to convince the person on the other side.

The DDLJ star added that he has a safe box which he never allowed the family to touch. After his death, the family opened the box and they discovered the press cuttings about Anupam Kher. At this point, Anupam got emotional. “A father has saved his son’s press cuttings. He would underline my name, even if the reviews are bad,” the actor said, as he fought back his tears. The box also had bounced cheques, rejection letters, Anupam’s letters to him, cards, and more. He added that he was his ‘best friend.’
