BANGALORE: Creating a milestone in the history of tiger conservation, the Centre for Wildlife Studies (CWS) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) celebrated 25 years of existence and service here on Tuesday. On the occasion, three wildlife conservationists Sanjay Gubbi, Niren Jain and Shekar Dattatri were felicitated for their outstanding contribution towards wildlife development and conservation. Present on the occasion, George B Schaller from USA, who has been associated with the Wildlife Conservation Society since 1895, lauded the tremendous works of Dr Ullas Karanth in the field of tiger conservation not just in India, but across the globe. Beginning with a single tiger research project in 1986 in Nagarhole, the WCS now encompasses major conservation strategies that is being pursued across the globe. Under the aegis of Dr Ullas Karanth, director of Centre for Wildlife Studies and Wildlife Conservation Society along with his team of researchers were the first to conduct radio-telemetry study in India in 1990s.
