Indian Navy Recruitment 2024: Physical Fitness Test And Selection Process Explained
To begin the selection process, candidates must pass the Physical Fitness Test, which is a key component of the assessment.

The Indian Navy has announced an exciting recruitment opportunity for young candidates aged 17-21 interested in joining as Sailors. The recruitment process is set to attract physically fit candidates who have the necessary academic background. Currently, the Navy is focusing on hiring for the medical branch, which requires candidates to have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in their 12th grade.

To begin the selection process, candidates must pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), which is a key component of the assessment. The PFT consists of several physical activities designed to gauge the candidates’ fitness levels. First, candidates must complete a 1.6 km run within 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Following the run, they must perform 20 squats, 15 push-ups and a similar number of bent knee sit-ups. This combination of exercises is intended to evaluate the candidates’ strength, stamina, and overall physical capability.

The recruitment process is divided into three stages:

  1. Shortlisting: In the first stage, candidates are shortlisted based on their academic performance in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from their 12th grade. This selection is conducted state-wise to identify eligible candidates.
  2. Physical Fitness Test and Written Examination: Shortlisted candidates will be called to undergo the Physical Fitness Test. Candidates who pass the PFT will then be required to take a written examination. This test includes 100 objective-type questions covering English, Science, Biology, General Awareness, and Reasoning. The examination can be taken in either Hindi or English, depending on the candidate’s preference.
  3. Medical Examination and Final Selection: Candidates who succeed in the written exam will be invited for a medical examination. A merit list will be published based on the results of this examination. Successful candidates from the merit list will attend a pre-enrolment examination at INS Chilika, Odisha. Those who pass the final medical examination will then proceed to training at INS Chilika.

This recruitment drive presents a valuable opportunity for young individuals to start a career in the Indian Navy, contributing to a prestigious and rewarding field.
