BANGALORE: After its successful launch on 26 April aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C-19, Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT-1) reached its final orbit on Saturday, according to a statement issued by ISRO. The PSLV-C19 had placed RISAT-1 in a polar orbit of 470 KM X 480 KM upon the launch. On 27 or 28 April, the propulsion system in the satellite was fired in four separate orbital manoeuvres to raise the height of RISAT-1 to 536 km. The satellite was reported to be in good health after the operation, stated ISRO.  According to the report, the future will witness testing and calibration of various different elements of the satellites C Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). The SAR aboard RISAT-1 is independent of sunlight to take images of the earth. The SAR uses radar pulses transmitted at 5.35 GHz to study objects on the earth.
