BANGALORE: The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) celebrated its golden jubilee year in the city on Monday. On this occasion, the Bangalore Chapter of the alumni association organised a day-long event to mark the milestone. Ajit Balakrishnan, chairman & board of directors, IIM-C, said, “The golden jubilee celebrations offer us an opportunity to look back at what we have accomplished and take pride in it.”Commenting on the IIM-C, 50th year milestone, Prof Sougata Ray, dean, IIM-C, said, “IIM-C is India’s first IIM and represents the mandate to professionalise management education in India as part of the development of the nation and its industrial policy. In the last fifty years, we have worked towards the nation’s development and emerged as the leading brand in Asia Pacific. We have achieved more growth and momentum than the pace of the Indian industry or economy.”Adding to this, Shekhar Chaudhuri, director, IIM-C, said, “At 50, IIM-C is an institution in evolution. So far we have been focusing on excellence in teaching, and while research has been a focus, we have decided that we will focus heavily on research as well. We are looking at developing collaborative relationships with other IIMs.”The IIM Calcutta alumni network Bangalore chapter has over 1000 members. An extremely noteworthy aspect of the Bangalore Chapter’s activities is the effort by a dedicated group of alumni, who have been taken to contribute back to society. The group meets every Saturday and identifies NGOs who need and are open to support in terms of management inputs from our alumni.In addition, the Chapter has worked on revamping the websites of various NGOs - making them more relevant to their stake-holders, easy to navigate, search-friendly and integrated with a payment gateway enabling on-line donations.
