Apple is currently in the early stages of developing an updated next-generation HomePod, which will feature an iPad-like display, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
In his PowerOn newsletter, Gurman points out that the release of this product is not anticipated within the current year. Furthermore, he speculates that Apple might be exploring the development of an iPad-like smart display designed to magnetically attach to surfaces, such as walls. “To date, I don’t believe Apple has made enough headway on any of these devices to consider them imminent,” Gurman said.
Furthermore, it is believed that Apple is in the early stages of development, with progress on track with overseas suppliers such as BYD, known for making some iPad models. However, if Apple decides to proceed with the product, the same device wouldn’t materialize until “2025 at the earliest.”
In addition, two key people associated with this development are Matt Costello and Brian Lynch—both Apple executives in the hardware division.
In December of last year, tipster Kosinski claimed that this new HomePod, codenamed B720, is expected to feature a curved display panel on the top of the speaker. Kosinski also shared images that could be the top housing of the product. Prior to this, Gurman himself and Ming-Chi Kuo, another notable analyst, have paid heed to this alleged model.
Having said that, these are still early rumours, and should be taken with a grain of salt until we have something more concrete from Apple’s end.
