Set up a permanent relief fund for victims: PM
Manmohan Singh appeals citizens to remain calm and maintain harmony.

New Delhi: Hours after Home Minister Shivraj Patil ruled out the possibility of reviving tough terror laws like POTA, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh suggested setting up of a permanent fund for providing relief to the victims of terror attacks.

Reviewing the security situation at a high-level meeting chaired by him at his Race Course residence, Manmohan Singh also appealed to all sections of the society to maintain “communal harmony and peace”.

PM’s media adviser Sanjaya Baru quoted the Prime Minister as saying that “citizens should not fall prey to the nefarious designs of terrorists and anti-national forces.

The delegation at 7, RCR was briefed by Home Minister Shivraj Patil about the situation in Hyderabad in the aftermath of the blasts on Saturday night.

Patil also apprised them about his visit to the Andhra Pradesh capital earlier in the day and his interaction with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and other senior state government officials.

The meeting reviewed the entire information available on the bomb blasts and the security situation and was attended by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar and Director of the Intelligence Bureau P C Haldar.
