Jaipur: In a joint operation here ahead of the December 1 polls in Rajasthan, Income Tax, Collectorate and Election Commission officials today found over Rs 13 lakh in cash in possession of a former MP.
Responding to an anonymous tip-off received by election officials, the joint team surveyed the hotel where Meetha Lal Jain, a former MP (12th Lok Sabha) from the Pali parliamentary constituency, was putting up. "Jain is being asked to disclose the source of the cash," a senior IT official said.
"We are yet to seize the cash and and are asking him to supply valid statements pertaining to it," the official added.
Jain, who is reportedly a leader of a local political outfit, Bharitya Yuva Jan Shakti Party, was unavailable for comment.
