Taylor Swift’s father, Scott Swift, is facing allegations of assaulting an Australian photographer while celebrating the conclusion of his daughter’s Eras Tour in Australia. The New South Wales Police Force confirmed on Monday that an investigation has been launched following an incident involving Scott and 51-year-old Ben McDonald at a ferry wharf in Sydney’s North Shore.
According to the report by Page Six, the alleged assault took place around 2:30 a.m on Tuesday morning. Medical attention was not necessary for Ben McDonald. According to Ben, who spoke to Daily Mail, the altercation occurred after Scott and the pop star had been out partying. McDonald claims Scott “charged” at him after the duo got off their luxury superyacht for the night.
Ben McDonald alleges that Scott struck him on the left side of the face, leaving him with “very sore chops.” He maintains he did nothing to incite her protective father.
BenMcDonald told the Daily Mail that after Taylor got off the boat, she approached security guards who were using umbrellas to block their view, and then Scott Swift charged at him. McDonald stated that in his 23-year career, he had never witnessed such an incident before.
Scott’s representative told Page Six that “two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.”
Photos from the alleged incident show Scott and Taylor walking off a dock with a black umbrella covering the singer from the waist up. Scott, not shielding himself, was seen at his daughter’s side, holding out his arm to guide her along, accompanied by at least two security guards.
The accuser, Ben McDonald, told the AFP news agency that he had been taking pictures of the US pop star on her “super yacht” in Sydney’s famous harbour. After Taylor departed, the photographer claimed that a man confronted him and “punched me in the chops.” Ben McDonald further explained that at the time, he was unaware of Scott Swift’s identity. However, upon reviewing photos and recognizing him holding hands with Taylor, he realized it was her father. He described this realization as shocking.
Scott Swift has been a regular attendee at his daughter’s concerts for more than ten years and accompanied her to Australia for the global segment of her tour. He is known to pass out guitar picks to Swift’s fans but recently surprised concertgoers by distributing sandwiches instead. The impact of these allegations on Taylor Swift’s upcoming shows in Singapore, scheduled to begin on March 2, remains uncertain.
