To throw a party which makes a lasting impression on your friends' memory is hard thing to do but can be managed if you follow these steps.

New Delhi: Now unforgettable things are rare and come once in a long time. So to throw a party which makes a lasting impression on your friends' memory would be a hard thing to do but can be managed if you follow these steps and work a little hard.

Invitees: Holi is a festival of colors, celebrated mainly to mark the coming of the harvesting season and happiness it brings with it. It is essential to maintain the original spirit of the festival and invite people whom you feel good about, who are funny and sporty, as the main part of Holi to play with colors and let your hair down. Invite your friends and colleagues and try to have people of similar age group and temperament as often Holi fun can break into a fight.

Organic Colors and sensitivity: Growing up we have all experienced the day after Holi which was spent in trying to get rid of the color and failing to do so we would have to go to school a shade of Pink with green ears. Living and working in a city like Delhi it is not possible for us to spend so much time of cleaning ourselves or going to offices colored. Organic colors come as a blessing for office goers who love Holi. They come off very easily and don't harm the skin at all.

It is also important to remember that we are playing Holi and not taking a grudge out on someone. When you color a person be sensitive and apply it don't rub it into someone's face or eyes or nose.

Food and Drinks: Only a political party should be without a good strong alcoholic drink not a Holi party, unless of-course you are under 18 or a teetotaler. It is very important for your guests to relax and feel at home. Food and beverage is the best way to do that. Holi has an array of its special sweet and salty dishes and they are very easy to find in the market if you a working person and cant cook at home. Don't bother cooking a great feast as it is not required. One of the best parts of any festival is its own particular kind food.

Coming to drinks, any Holi party is incomplete without a good tall glass of 'Bangh' so arrange that if your guests are game. If you miss that then there are a number of easy cocktails which will keep you high and warm after you are wet head to toe.

Music: When you are happy and surrounded by a group of your close friends all you want to do is dance, which is a little odd to do without music. Thankfully we have Bollywood to relay of to give new and entertaining Holi songs every year. Set your play list and add in some nice groovy English dance songs in between the Bollywood songs to cover a wider number of audiences present at your party. Then being the host, drink a little less and, take notice of the people who are not dancing. If you spot any push them into the circle as dancing in the other way to get people to relax.

Be calm and enjoy: A big reason a party is a failure is when the host is uptight. This put your guests on their guard and they fail to enjoy, in turn you fail to enjoy and feel unsuccessful as a host. While throwing a Holi party keep in mind there with be a mess when it's over. There might be color stains on the wall; your floor is bound to be of 50 different shades by the evening just as you will be. The best way to deal with your paranoia of getting your things dirty is to wrap them up. Roll up the expensive rugs, hide all breakables and put a plastic cover over your sofas and chairs to keep them from resembling your floors.

These five simple steps will help you throw an unforgettable Holi party, for it is a rarity when stressful professionals get a chance to behave like children that they used to be.

What's your reaction?
