BANGALORE: Reacting to the news 'Tumkur Varsity pays Vice Chancellor (VC) to keep Rs 25K a month home empty' that appeared in these columns on May 25, Vice Chancellor of Tumkur University Dr SC Sharma clarified that he had been staying in the official quarters in Tumkur. However, since he has to attend many works related to the varsity in Bangalore, he would occasionally stay there also, he added."The University has not got any support from the UGC so far as it is yet to acquire the required status under the Sec 12(b) of the UGC Act. I have to mobilise resources to expand the infrastructure of the University for which I have to meet the Governor and other officials in Bangalore often," he stated in a release.Dr Sharma denied the complaint that he had abandoned the official quarters in Tumkur.
