CHENNAI: A day after he congratulated Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on her resounding victory in the recent elections, film star Rajinikanth reached out to defeated DMK chief M Karunanidhi. Speaking to the veteran leader over phone from Singapore, Rajinikanth spoke words of comfort to Karunanidhi, whose family and party have been reeling under a slew of corruption charges.“You are a senior leader who have faced many ups and downs. At this stage your health is of paramount importance. Please don’t let anything else bother you,” Rajinikanth told the octogenarian, according to a release from the DMK.Karunanidhi expressed happiness with the actor’s recovery and asked him to return home soon. Rajinikanth had recently been discharged from the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre in Singapore, where he has been undergoing treatment since May 28, for gastrointestinal and respiratory problems.The matinee idol’s medical condition has been the centre of much attention ever since he was admitted to the Isabel Hospital in Chennai on April 29. Rajinikanth had called Chief Minister Jayalalithaa soon after being discharged, reportedly telling her she was the “first one he had called” after his discharge.During this conversation, he had told Jayalalithaa that she had ‘saved’ the State by winning the elections. Now he seems to have sought to balance his act, by calling up Karunanidhi as well.
