Kaif, 6, resident of Lottegollahalli died of snakebite on Sunday. Sources said the boy was playing near his house, when the snake bit him.
The rescue volunteers said heaps of garbage had accumulated in the locality, which attracted rodents. “Snakes are always present in such areas,” a rescue volunteer said.
“Kaif’s father, an auto driver, could not afford the treatment. So, his neighbours pooled in Rs 4,700 to pay for the treatment,” said sources. However, due to the delay in taking the boy to the hospital, he succumbed.
