After a tabloid tipped the local police, a suspect has been held for the July 7 London bombings that killed 52 people.

London: In a major breakthrough in the July 7 London bomb attacks that killed 52 people, British police on Sunday arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of instigating acts of terrorism.

Anti-terrorist branch officers picked the suspect up in Dewsbury in West Yorkshire following a tip-off by the News of the World tabloid.

Officers are searching two residential addresses in the area.

The man is being held on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism and is being questioned at a local police station, police said.

"We thank the News of the World for bringing this matter to our attention. The information passed on to the police by the newspaper is now being assessed by the anti-terrorist branch of the Metropolitan Police," a spokesperson of the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
