BANGALORE: As part of their CSR initiative, Nation Wide Primary Healthcare Services Pvt. Ltd and Rotary Club of Bangalore (Indiranagar) recently screened more than 800 government school children from B Narayanpurana and Garudacharpalya for their health status.Seven doctors from NationWide and Neonatal Care and Research Institute checked children aged 6 to 14 years for personal hygiene, iron deficiencies, learning difficulties, dental and eye-sight problems in addition to their general physical and psychological development.Talking about the camps, Dr Adarsh Somashekar, head (Paediatrics) of NPHS said, “Around 15 per cent of children were under weight and only two children were found to be overweight for their respective height. Almost 50 percent of the children suffered from anaemia and 35 per cent from Vitamin A deficiency. Additionally, 10 percent of children needed further eye sight testing as they could not read the black board in the class. Two children were diagnosed with holes in their heart and were referred to a super-specialty hospital in the city, with all expenses sponsored by the Rotary club of Bangalore.” The doctors suggested activities to improve the health status of children.
