New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday observed that if people do not eat onions for two months, then prices will come down. The apex court bench headed by Justice BS Chauhan said, "If one were to stop eating onions for two months, then prices would come down."
The court made the observation while dismissing a public interest litigation which sought to regular the price of onions in the country. The court also stated that its function is not to regulate prices of onions and other vegetables.
The court told the petitioner that it should not be burdened with such public interest suits.
The retail price of onion had touched Rs 100 per kg at several places across India in October and November.
