Anupam Kher Reveals How His Friendship With Kirron Kher Blossomed Into Love
Anupam Kher revealed that he was best friends with Kirron Kher before he married her.

Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher are among the most respected couples in Bollywood. They have been married for nearly 40 years now. But even before they fell in love and eventually made the decision to tie the knot, the two were great friends who had known each other since their college days in Chandigarh. In a recent interview, the Uunchai actor recalled how his friendship with Kirron turned into a life-long companionship.

During a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, Anupam said, “I wasn’t married, Kirron was married, and we were best friends for 12 years. She was my senior in college. She was a star—first in her class, the best actress, and an India-level badminton player.” He shared that Kirron moved to Mumbai after her marriage with Gautam Berry, whereas he moved to the city for work. The actor recalled, “As strugglers, Satish Kaushik and I would often go to Kirron and Gautam’s house for dinner, and she would give us Rs 50 for taxi, but we would save that money and travel by bus instead.”

Further, the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai actor revealed that his friendship with Kirron Kher evolved into love when they were both going through bad relationships. “When she was going through a tough time in her marriage, and I was going through a bad relationship—after the girl I was with had ditched me—Kirron and I fell in love and got married,” added Anupam.

In the same conversation, when asked about what he loves the most about his wife, Anupam, in no time, mentioned, “She is the most honest person—bindaas, honest, beautiful, caring, and she has a strong character. We were good friends, and that friendship translated into love and then into marriage.”

For those who don’t know, Kirron Kher married businessman Gautam Berry in 1979. They were blessed with a son, Sikandar, in 1981. Four years after welcoming their son, the duo decided to part ways and got divorced in 1985. Later, in the same year, the actress tied the knot with Anupam Kher.

While speaking with Shubhankar Mishra, Anupam shared that he initially did not feel that he wanted a child, but for the past couple of years, he felt the void. “I didn’t feel it that much before, but now, sometimes I do feel like it. I think in the last seven to eight years. It’s not like I am not happy with Sikandar, but I think it’s a joy to see a child growing up. It’s a joy to see bonding and this is an honest answer to you. I could have avoided answering this, but I don’t want to do that. But it’s okay. It’s not a tragedy in my life. But, I sometimes feel it would have been a nice thing,” said the actor.
