The lockdown-induced financial hardships forced a civil engineer and his wife to kill themselves and their kids in Madhya Pradesh capital city Bhopal on Saturday. The man and his daughter were killed, while his son and wife are battling for life in a hospital.
Locals said civil engineer, who lives with family in Misrod area of Bhopal, had lost his job during the lockdown, while his wife used to run a beauty parlour which was also closed for a while since lockdown. The couple upset and used to fight frequently, neighbours said.
On Saturday, after the family’s breakfast, the woman approached a neighbour and narrated the incident that happened in her family and fainted afterwards. The neighbour quickly called the police.
Upon reaching the house of the woman with his team, SP (South) Sai Krishna Thota found the door was closed from inside. The police team broke open the door and found the man unconscious in one of the rooms. The son and daughter were also lying nearby in a pool of blood.
The police sent them to Hamidia hospital where the man and son were declared brought dead, while the woman and their daughter are said to be critical, the police said.
A suicide note left by the man claims that he and his wife were upset with financial hardships after the lockdown and he hadn’t received his salary for the last three months.
