Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that some prisoners were trying to sabotage the constitutional systems in the jails and challenging the laws inside the prisons.
He was inaugurating the functioning of closed circuit cameras, loud speaker and coin box telephone facility at the District Jail at the Central Prison complex, Poojappura, here on Wednesday.
“Most of the prisoners are law-abiding citizens. But some create riot inside the jail. They need all the protection ensured by the Constitution. But at the same time they are trying to sabotage the Constitutional systems and taking the role of dons inside the jail. This cannot be accepted,” said the Home Minister.
The 46 cameras that were installed in cells and barracks were supplied by ‘Keltron’. Since microphones are attached to the cameras they can also record voices. The cameras installed at the prison entrance have the facility to store pictures up to 30 days. A control room for cameras has been set up near the Prison Superintendent’s room.
ADM, P K Girija presided over the function. ADGP Prisons Alexander Jacob, Prisons DIG H Gopakumar, District Prison Superintendent S Santhosh, Councillor K Maheswaran Nair, Keltron managing director C Prasannakumar and others spoke at the function.
