Sahara Force India driver Paul Di Resta hasn't seen sunny days at Silverstone, and the Scot heads into this weekend's British Grand Prix believing that his home race owes him a good result.
On his two attempts at the Silverstone track, Di Resta has blown hot and cold. He qualified a commendable sixth in his debut year in 2011, but the race day brought misfortune in a pit-stop gaffe that cost him precious seconds. He finished a lowly 15th after an eventual tangle later in the race. The 2012 British GP saw the Scot hit a new low in his career when he was forced to retire midway through the race after damaging the floor of his car.
Talking to The Herald, the Force India driver admits that last year's debacle "still hurts", while hoping that he can bring some joy to his home fans this season. "Hopefully it will be third time lucky for me this weekend and we will get a result. I remember I had a great qualifying there two years ago. Looking back on all my qualifying laps, that one in 2011, to get sixth on the grid, would definitely be in my top three," Di Resta said.
Di Resta has earned points for his team in six of the seven races so far, which makes him one of the in-form drivers this season. That despite mistakes during qualifying in Monaco and Canada, pushing him back to 17th on the grid.
But he still has high hopes at home, with his close one around. "Having the family and friends there, with their support, staying on the campsite, feeling the atmosphere build up, is great," said Di Resta. "This race is the highest attended we go to, and it's special to be a part of that as one of the Brits, seeing the support you get.
"It would be nice to add to that and give those around me something to smile about and to celebrate on Sunday night. This year is certainly a big one, and given our form, we're setting ourselves up to achieve more than we have done in the past."
