New Delhi: Wimbledon saw the biggest upset this year on Tuesday with the men's and women's draws combined, as defending champion Amelie Mauresmo crashed out in the fourth round.
Fourth seed Mauresmo was pushed to a tie-breaker in first set by Nicole Vaidisova.
The second set saw a turnaound, though, with the Frenchwoman winning it 6-4. But Mauresmo looked completely out of sorts in the decider, losing the match 6-7, 6-4, 1-6.
This was Mauresmo's first exit from the fourth round at Wimbledon.
Mauresmo wasn't the only big name to fall by the wayside as the women's draw continued to throw more surprises.
Third seed Serbian Jelena Jankovic was also knocked out in the fourth round as she was beaten in straight sets by 18th seed Marion Bartoli of France in three sets. Bartoli won 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
There was better luck, though, for the sixth seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. She had to struggle hard before overcoming 11th seed Nadia Petrova of Russia. The serbian won 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
