THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI state executive which met here on Saturday called for a strong agitation against the anti-people policies of the State and Central Governments. In a resolution passed by the meeting, the state executive observed that the UPA Government was ‘’immersed’’ in corruption. Even the Supreme Court had criticised the Centre for its lack of interest in recovering black money deposited in foreign banks by Indian nationals. The Congress and the BJP are now competing in the matter of corruption, it said. The meeting pointed out that the government was not trying to check the unprecedented price rise. The State Government has sabotaged the Rs 2-a-kg rice scheme implemented by the LDF Government. Another move by the State Government is to destroy government schools by allowing the private sector to open new CBSE and ICSE schools. The government has succumbed to the pressures from the traders of education, the meeting alleged in the resolution. V Chamunni presided over the meeting. State secretary C K Chandrappan, national executive members Veliyam Bhargavan,  C Divakaran and assistant secretary C N Chandran attended. Meanwhile, C Divakaran MLA, the legislative party leader of CPI, alleged that the stipulation for affixing photograph on the application form for Rs 2-a-kg rice scheme was to sabotage the scheme. Only new applicants should be asked to affix photographs, he said.
