Chennai: Six days on, the death toll in the Chennai building collapse has now climbed to 61. Rescue operations are now winding down as no survivors have been pulled out in two days.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered for a one-man probe commission headed by a former judge to look into the building collapse.

"We can't call off the operation unless all teams working here assess and review the situation. All debris cleared and I believe there is nothing left to look for," said MK Verma of the NDRF.

The Chennai police have arrested six people. This even as CNN-IBN has found that there is no monitoring mechanism during construction to ensure builders don't flout norms.
