Former President US Donald Trump has pledged to make the United States energy-dominant globally if he wins the 2024 White House race against Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
In an interview with Fox News, the Republican presidential nominee asserted that lowering energy prices is crucial for addressing broader economic issues in the United States, including skyrocketing inflation.
‘Drill, baby, drill’
“We’re going to get energy way down. Drill, baby, drill,” Trump declared, highlighting the U.S.’s vast energy resources. He said, “We have more energy — we have more liquid gold, as I call it, under our feet than Saudi Arabia, than Russia, than anybody.” He promised that America would not only achieve energy dominance but also significantly reduce energy costs for consumers.

Trump slammed the lack of infrastructure in the US, particularly pipelines, which he believes contribute to high energy prices in regions like New England. “People in New England pay some of the highest prices in the world because we don’t have a pipeline,” he noted, pointing to regulatory hurdles in New York as a major barrier.
In addition to energy policies, Trump outlined plans to revitalise the American auto industry. He expressed concern that the industry could collapse if Vice President Kamala Harris were to win the presidency, suggesting that countries like China would dominate auto manufacturing. “Those people in Michigan that love me… their auto industry won’t exist in two years if she gets elected,” he warned.
Auto Tariffs
Trump proposed a tariff system aimed at encouraging the construction of auto plants in the US and protecting domestic manufacturing. He stated, “Mexico stole 32% of our auto manufacturing. We’re going to say, ‘You want to do that? We’re putting tariffs on your cars coming in.'” He vowed to take decisive action to restore auto jobs within his first two weeks in office if elected.
“We’re going to have more auto jobs than we’ve ever had,” he promised, emphasising that tariffs would play a crucial role in his strategy. He slammed the Biden administration’s approach, particularly its plans to remove tariffs on Chinese cars while imposing taxes on electric vehicles, calling it inadequate.
Trump’s energy and economic proposals reflect his broader campaign strategy as he seeks to regain the presidency in 2024, aiming to leverage America’s natural resources and manufacturing capabilities to foster economic growth and job creation.
