Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria District magistrate, Divya Mittal, is currently dominating the headlines. Recently, Divya went through the inspection of flood-affected areas and reprimanded the officers for their inefficiency. According to reports, when Deoria’s DM was covering the flood-affected regions, an officer requested her to let him rest for a while. The officer cited the extreme heat for this reason. Reportedly, the DM told the officer that he was not going to fall ill due to this heat. The departmental officers accompanying the DM were reportedly scared due to her strict demeanour. This no-nonsense and strict style of the Deoria DM is capturing the headlines everywhere.

About Divya Mittal

Divya, Deoria’s district magistrate, has studied at IIT Delhi and IIM Mumbai. Divya is a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, who hails from Haryana’s Rewari district. She cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services examination in her first attempt, securing an All-India Rank (AIR) of 68 in 2012. The Deoria DM initially joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) and later became an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer in 2013.

Known for her developmental work, she has served as the district magistrate of Mirzapur, Sant Kabir Nagar, and other areas. Divya is known for reportedly making important contributions, such as providing water access to Lahuria Dah village in Mirzapur.

Divya earlier worked as an investment banker in London. She secured a degree in MBA (Master of Business Administration) from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bengaluru. She also completed a degree BTech (Bachelor of Technology) from IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Delhi. She has served as the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the UP Rural Roads Development Agency (UPRRDA) in Lucknow, after being transferred from Basti district.

Divya’s dedication and impactful work have earned her widespread fame and heartfelt farewells. The local women had showered her with rose petals upon her transfer from Mirzapur.

Divya’s counterpart MP Shashank Mani Tripathi, Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma and chief development officer Pratyush Pandey are also IIT alumni. In an interview with News 18, Divya called it just a coincidence.
