New Delhi: Air India employees will go on a two-hour strike between 1300 hrs IST to 1500 hrs IST on Friday alleging that the management is not keeping its commitment on paying salaries to all lower grade employees by July 3.
Some sections of the employees unions are meeting on Friday afternoon to chalk out the next strategy with nearly 21,000 employees across the country likely to stay away from their seats for two hours on Friday.
"We are discussing the issue and will announce our future course of action in case the management fails to honour its commitment of paying salaries to the lower category of employees by July 3," an Air Corporation Employees Union leader has been quoted as saying by PTI in New Delhi.
The unions are alleging that the management had earlier agreed to pay Grade 1-9 employees of Air India and Grade 1/2 and 3/6 of Indian but have now said it won't happen for a few more days.
But the employees won't be boycotting Friday's meeting of the 'turnaround committee' slated to be held in Mumbai.
An Air India official, however, said that the airline has been trying to pay salaries to its employees in the lower grades on July 3.
He also said that the payments would be made through the electronic clearance systems and the process of identifying eligible employees was going on.
The unions had been protesting the management's earlier decision to pay the salaries by July 15.
