New Delhi: With the Reds having 'done the double' over both their main rivals this season, the Liverpool skipper doesn't think his side are far away from winning the title.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard thinks that the Merseysiders are close to fulfilling their obvious potential and winning the Premier League title, even if it doesn't happen this season.
As evidence for his claims, the England international has pointed to the fact that in four league fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester United, the Reds have emerged victorious each time.
Such results as Saturday's 4-1 mauling of United at Old Trafford, coupled with the previous Tuesday's 4-0 battering of Real Madrid at Anfield, have given Gerrard immense pride as well, particularly with the character the side has displayed.
"We have been to Stamford Bridge and won there, we got a draw at the Emirates and now we have won at Old Trafford," he told the club's official website.
"These results show that we are good enough to win the league but it has just been frustrating in other games we have drawn where we have not been able to break teams down. But there is no good in looking back, we just need to look forward. This has been a fantastic week and I am not sure if there has been a better week in my Liverpool career. We have comfortably beaten Real Madrid at home with a superb performance and then gone to Old Trafford and comfortably beaten Manchester United," said Gerrard.
"This performance was right up there at the very top of great Liverpool ones in the past because we have beaten the world and European champions. The most pleasing thing was the character we showed when we went a goal down. Many teams would have gone to Old Trafford, conceded that goal and then given in or caved in, and United would have won by three or four. But we fought back," he said.
"It was a wonderful performance and the result makes it look more emphatic than it was. We came here with a gameplan to fight and play a bit higher than usual. It would have been disappointing to have played defensive and negative and lost the game 1-0," he said.
"Even when we went a goal down we still had the belief to get back into the game. We showed a lot of character and got our rewards in the end," he said.
And Gerrard also thinks Liverpool can still win the league title this season, if they keep believing.
He concluded, "I think we can still win the league. It is still tough, and there is still a big gap and we are running out of time because there are not many games left. But anything is possible and while it remains possible we will keep on fighting and make sure we win every game that is still left."
