New Delhi: He knows what missing a drug test can result in. Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand suffered a painful 8 month long ban from the game for missing a drugs test 5 years ago.
No wonder now, he is happy to endorse WADA's new testing even with the controversial whereabouts clause.
Ferdinand says, "We've been told whenever you've got a day off or anything like that you've got to give your whereabouts on that day so if people want to come and test you they know where you are. Tedious it is a little bit but if means it's going to clean up the game, it will be for the good of the game then great."
Rio's time off the pitch due to a thigh injury has given him time to acclaim and applaud Jamaican Usain Bolt's exploits on the track and like the rest of the world, he too has been left mesmerised.
"He's been unbelievable, I mean it's just ridiculous. You see Usain Bolt and when I spoke to him before in the magazine, in the issue that's out at the moment he was talking to me about his diet and stuff. Some of the stuff he was talking about you just think to yourself 'how can a man be on a diet like he's on and be able to run as fast as he does, not only in the 100 but the 200?’' quips Ferdinand.
Some big spending by La Liga clubs has weakened his own side Manchester United but he believes this would give the English clubs all the more reasons to do well and prove themselves in the Champions League.
"I think the last three or four years we've been English teams in the semi-finals of the Champions League, like three teams most of them years, at least two so that says it all about where the Premier League is at at the moment. This season we have to wait and see with the proof in the pudding if we're still the best league in the world or not," says Ferdinand.
Ferdinand is targetting the match against Tottenham on September 9 to make his comeback.
