MUNICH:Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has slammed UEFA over the suspension of star Franck Ribery for the Champions League final against Inter Milan.
Hoeness said UEFA was full of Italians "who have interests," while Germany was underrepresented and had little "moral support.'
UEFA earlier this week rejected Bayern's appeal against Ribery's three-match suspension that rules him out of the May 22 final. Bayern has indicated that it will take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
"There are too many Italians in UEFA who have interests. The referee was an Italian, there are many Italians among the people who are active in UEFA," Hoeness said during a non-sports awards ceremony in Munich on Thursday evening according to the German news agency DPA.
"And no single German. You have little moral support there," Hoeness said.
Massimo Busacca, the referee who gave a red card to Ribery during the semifinal against Lyon, is not Italian but Swiss.
Theo Zwanziger, president of the German football federation, is also on UEFA's executive committee.
