New Delhi: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Rio Ferdinand will be in the starting line-up for the second leg of the club's Champions League quarter-final at Porto on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils will need to be at the top of their game, with the tie poised at 2-2, as they trail on away goals. Not conceding another is key, and Ferdinand's presence in the line-up will be a hugely reassuring boost for both his team-mates and the club's supporters.
"Rio's fit, he'll start tomorrow," confirmed Ferguson at his press conference in Portugal. "He always makes a difference when he's in the team."
However, there was less encouraging news for United in the midfield department, with the revelation that Darren Fletcher will not be in the squad, as he is suffering the effects of a hamstring injury sustained during the first leg of the tie at Old Trafford last Wednesday.
Ferguson also confirmed that he was relishing the challenge, delighting in the kind of high-profile, high-pressure occasion that such a clash provides.
"It's a pleasure to be involved in games like this," he added. "Porto have the advantage but we are capable of turning it around."
