New Delhi: The AIFF on Friday slapped a fine of Rs 50 lakh on FC Goa for boycotting the prize distribution ceremony following their 2-3 loss to Chennaiyin FC in the final of the second edition of Indian Super League football in December last.
Following their 2-3 loss in the final to Chennaiyin FC on December 20, FC Goa boycotted the medals ceremony, alleging the game was fixed.
"FC Goa has been fined Rs 50 lakhs (which is to be paid within 10 days) for not attending the post match Presentation Ceremony of the Hero ISL Final 2015," the All India Football Federation said in a statement after a meeting of its disciplinary committee at the Football House.
The apex body charged FC Goa under article 53 of the AIFF disciplinary code (team misconduct), article 58 (offensive behaviour) and article 60 (threats) after the controversy-marred ISL final when FC Goa conceded two goals in the last three minutes at the Nehru Stadium at Margao.
FC Goa had said that they were forced to boycott the prize distribution ceremony because the ISL authorities failed to take action against Chennaiyin FC marquee player Elano Blumer who is alleged to have assaulted and abused FC Goa co-owner Dattaraj Salgaocar.
The AIFF's disciplinary committee had earlier served show cause notice to FC Goa under its Disciplinary Code and ISL Regulations.
In today's meeting, the disciplinary committee also decided to ban and fine FC Goa's equipment manager Rajesh Malgi.
"Furthermore, Mr. Rajesh Malgi, Equipment Manager, FC Goa has been suspended for four matches of Hero ISL and also fined Rs 1 lakh for using offensive gestures and abusive language against the match officials after the final whistle of the Hero ISL 2015," the AIFF stated.
The AIFF yesterday suspended Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen for eight matches and slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakh for making derogatory statements against the federation.
Sen had lashed out at the AIFF saying it has been "sold out" after his request for rescheduling of an I-League match in January was ignored by the apex football body.
