There is a saying, “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” It means that sometimes the bonds one chooses to have in their lifetime, including friendship, are more important than bonds with family. People wish for their friendship to last long a lifetime and wish their children to carry forward a similar bond. Something similar happened to two best friends, Toni Wells and Beth Thomas. They are setting friendship goals with their heartwarming story. But, wait for the surprise. Toni Wells and Beth Thomas have been the best of friends for 30 years. They became pregnant at about the same time. First, Beth Thomas gave birth to her son, Luke; then Toni gave birth to her daughter named Ashley. The two children were not related by blood, but they grew up like siblings after their parents became close friends in the 80s. They would do everything together. Both the couples respectively had three children each who all grew up together like siblings.
Ashley and Luke’s relationship was strictly platonic and almost mimicked sibling behaviour with the constant bickering, punching and fighting. In college, they decided to explore their relationship romantically before tying the knot, four years later. While talking to a news portal, Beth said that she always thought how great it would be if their children grew up and got married to each other. As per Ashley, the whole situation is “funny” as everyone the families talk to – be it the people they know or barely know, always said that they knew Ashley and Luke would end up together. Ashley thinks that it is because everyone wished it to happen, like the end of a great movie or a book.
When Ashley and Luke tied the nuptial knot in 2020, it was an emotional moment for Toni Wells and Beth Thomas. From becoming best friends, they were now a family. Their happiness further multiplied, because after a few years of marriage, their family was all set to expand. Ashley shared a TikTok video of Toni and Beth opening a box with a pregnancy test inside and a note reading, “First In-laws, now grandparents. Baby Thomas/Wells arriving in August 2024.”
The news of Ashley and Luke’s pregnancy left their mothers in for a surprise as Toni and Beth had dreamed about this for years. Ashley said that both the mothers had been waiting for this day to arrive, the moment she and Luke got together and kept asking them when they would start trying for a baby. Parents-to-be are quite excited and thrilled because of the arrival of their “precious baby” and the “best set of grandparents” they could ever ask for.
