This love story took place at a bustling Starbucks cafe, adding a sprinkle of sweetness to the season of affection. It is here that Samantha, a young college student balancing her studies with a part-time job as a barista at Starbucks, found herself drawn to a certain customer, Robbie Hildebrandt. Little did she know that their chance encounter would blossom into a timeless love story, and ultimately turn into the journey of a lifetime of togetherness.
As Valentine’s Week casts its enchanting spell, Samantha shared her fairytale love story with the Kennedy News. Samantha shared that she found herself smitten by a regular customer despite only exchanging passing greetings. However, one day in 2016, Robbie made a conversation with her, asking her about her Thanksgiving break and that is where it all started.
Seizing the moment, she discreetly scribbled her phone number on his holiday cappuccino cup with a sharpie, hoping for a chance at romance.
“I was so happy. I think our conversation gave me the confidence to pursue him,” Samantha, from Ocean City, New Jersey, told Kennedy News.
“I wrote my number with a sharpie and he texted me that night. The rest is history,” she added.
She further shared that she feels “very lucky” that Robbie – who is now her husband, happened to see her cell scrawled on the paper cup. “Otherwise I don’t know if we’d be together today,” said Samantha.
“I felt so excited and hopeful for the future,” she said. “I just felt like it was the start of something amazing, I had a feeling about that.”
Samantha and Robbie had their first date in a cozy Italian restaurant. It left Samantha feeling cherished and valued, marking the beginning of a meaningful connection. “The first proper date was very cute, I felt special. I’d never once been taken on a date and been treated that way,” Samantha fondly recalled, highlighting Robbie’s gestures.
Fast forward five years, and the couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony, solidifying their love in the presence of family and friends.
To commemorate their unconventional meeting, they included a symbolic touch into their celebration, displaying a mason jar filled with coffee beans labeled “the perfect blend,” serving as a testament to their love story.
“You’ve got to go for it, take chances in life, and be confident because you never know,” Samantha adds.
