Director Shaji Kailas Shares Hilarious On-Set Memory From Suresh Gopi's Ekalavyan

Renowned filmmaker Shaji Kailas expressed heartfelt gratitude to Malayalam superstar Suresh Gopi for extending an invitation to his daughter Bhagya Suresh’s wedding. In a recent Facebook post, Shaji Kailas reminisced about a humorous incident that occurred before the shooting of the blockbuster movie Ekalavyan in 1993, directed by Shaji Kailas himself.

Titled The Fallen Camera and Effectiveness Of Victory, Shaji Kailas’ post went viral as he reflected on Suresh Gopi’s journey from being an actor to a responsible father. The director commended the actor’s values, particularly highlighting the moment when Suresh Gopi introduced his friends and colleagues to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Bhagya’s wedding day at the Guruvayoor Krishna temple in Thrissur, Kerala.

The post delved into a nostalgic memory from the first shoot of Ekalavyan, where Suresh Gopi, already a recognised lead actor in Malayalam cinema, faced an unexpected mishap. During the initial shot, the camera fell to the ground, shattering the lens and casting a wave of disappointment. Shaji Kailas vividly described the moment when the set fell silent, and sadness crept into Suresh Gopi’s eyes.

In the face of adversity, Shaji Kailas recounted how he consoled Suresh Gopi, and the still photographer, Sunil Guruvayoor, managed to salvage the situation by capturing three to four stills. Despite the initial setback, Ekalavyan emerged as a massive success at the box office, establishing Suresh Gopi as the superstar of Malayalam cinema.

Shaji Kailas humorously recalled reminding Suresh Gopi of the first-day camera mishap when the film reached milestones like completing one hundred and two hundred days. The post included an affectionate exchange where Suresh Gopi, now a seasoned actor, shared a hearty laugh about the challenging start.
