As humans continue to encroach upon natural habitats, the interactions between people and wildlife have also become more dramatic. A video of a group of men engaging in a bizarre tug-of-war with a shark over its prey is a reflection of this unsettling trend. The clip, soon after being shared on social media, captured widespread attention, sparking a heated debate about the ethics of disturbing a predator’s natural feeding process and our impact on wildlife. The incident happened off the San Diego coast in the US, according to Daily Mail.
The footage of the incident, shared by Daily Mail on Instagram, captures the intense moment the mako shark clamps onto a large tuna caught by the fishermen. As one man leans over the side of the boat, attempting to retrieve the fish from the shark’s jaws, others join in to help. After several tense seconds of tug-of-war, the fishermen manage to wrestle the tuna free and the shark eventually swims away.
The caption, accompanying the video, reads, “A fishing charter crew off the coast of San Diego battled with an opportunistic mako shark in a tense game of tug-of-war over a large tuna.”

Since being shared online, the video has garnered significant attention, sparking a range of reactions in the comment section. While many users expressed shock and surprise at the scene, others criticised fishermen for intruding on the shark’s territory and snatching away its food.
One user remarked, “No one’s greedier than humans. Snatching food from those creatures in their own home.” Another questioned, “Why didn’t he just give it to the poor creature?”
Comments continued to pour in with someone urging, “Let the shark have it. What is wrong with people.” Another user declared, “This is disgusting. Those fishermen should be fined,” one bold user declared
“To be fair it is the sharks dinner. It’s their habitat not the humans,” another added.
“That’s a Big One and he’s not allowing you to eat his food just let his food go so he can go on his little way. He’s just hungry. It’s either the fish or the fingers,” one person noted.
A user quipped, “Imagine if bro fell off, shark will leave the smaller fish and go for the big fish.”
“The fish is already spoiled at that point. Just give it to the shark,” another chimed in.
The criticism didn’t stop there. A viewer commented, “That why sharks attack people. They have nothing to eat. If someone taking the food from you table, you will be angry and hungry.”
And another more bluntly stated, “Wow humans are truly disgusting. Not even your place to be stealing food from other creatures. Hope that boat sinks.”
