England will face Australia in a three-match T20I series. The series opener is scheduled to take place at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday (September 11), and the two matches will be played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday (September 13) and Sunday (September 15), respectively.
Mitchell Marsh will lead Australia in the away series, and the hosts will play under the leadership of wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt. The Kolkata Knight Riders star was appointed as England’s captain for the shortest format series after Jos Buttler was ruled out due to injury.
Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins is not part of the Australian team for T20I series, but apart from him, all the first team players will be seen in action.
England last played a T20I match on June 27, 2024, against India and lost the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 by 68 runs. On the other hand, Aussies are coming into the series after whitewashing Scotland in the three-match series played in Edinburgh.
In the last T20I match played between the two teams on June 8, 2024, 2021 T20 World Cup winners Australia defeated England by 36 runs at Kensington Oval in Barbados. While the visitors would like to maintain the winning run, England will be desperate to take the revenge.
