New Delhi: Former Goa tourism minister Mickey Pacheco has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning in connection with acquiring a US visa on forged documents. Pacheco's bank accounts have also been frozen and his three mobile phones have been taken away by the CBI.
The CBI has already registered a case against Pacheco and two others for acquiring a US visa allegedly on forged documents. He is being investigated for immigration fraud and for allegedly running a money laundering racket, based on information provided by the US authorities.
The US State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security has informed the Government that Pacheco might be involved in a global immigration and money laundering racket. The CBI is assessing the documents and details of Pacheco's banking transactions handed over by the US.
Pacheco resigned as minister on June 6 following allegations of his involvement in the mysterious death of his lady friend Nadia Torrado. He was arrested on July 9 and got bail on July 26 - around the same time when the US first alerted India about his alleged role in the racket.
