LJP announces 9 more candidates for Bihar elections, riles HAM by refusing to vacate Chakai seat
The LJP and the HAM are contesting the elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance.

Lok Janshakti Party on Monday announced the names of nine more candidates for Bihar Assembly elections. The names include six for the first phase and one each for the second, third and fourth phases. The names were announced by LJP Jamui MP Chirag Paswan in New Delhi.

The list is certainly going to lead to controversy as the party has named Vijay Singh from Chakai seat which is represented by senior Hindustani Awam Morcha leader Narendra Singh's son Sumit Kumar Singh, who is the sitting MLA from the constituency.

The LJP and the HAM are contesting the elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with the BJP and the RSLP as the other two partners.

Even in the Warsinagar seat, the LJP candidate is likely to face a rebel BJP leader BK Singh.

But in the seat sharing the constituency went to LJP as it comes under the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency. The LJP had on Friday released its first list of candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections, which is set to begin on October 12.

As many as 12 candidates, spread over different phases, were declared in the first list released by Ram Vilas Paswan's son Chirag Paswan.

While names of six candidates were announced for the first phase, one each was declared for the third and fourth phases. Names of four candidates were declared for the fifth and last phase of the state polls.

The list once again reveals that relatives of leaders are preferred. The Mokama candidate Kanhaiya Singh is the brother of LJP vice president Surajbhan Singh.

Bihar will vote in five phases to elect a new 243-member Assembly. The voting dates are October 12, 15, 28, November 1 and 5. Counting of votes will take place on November 8. The term of the current Assembly ends on November 29.
