Karnataka Government Formation Live Updates | Newly sworn-in Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy has told News18 that the JDS will fight the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections with Congress and that he was going to waive off farmer loans. Earlier today, a galaxy of opposition leaders and political heavyweights have descended on Bengaluru for the swearing-in ceremony of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government headed by HD Kumaraswamy, a development that could plant a seed for a broad-based anti-BJP platform before the Lok Sabha polls next year. Amid those from the anti-BJP plank attending the ceremony are Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, regional rivals like Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Chandrababu Naidu and others.

Earlier today, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee was in a belligerent mood as she landed in Bengaluru. “Jo hamse takrayega, chur chur ho jayega (Whoever dares to fight with us will be decimated),” she said with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu by her side. The West Bengal CM said that the swearing-in is an important event for democracy and an opportunity to strengthen regional parties.

BS Yeddyurappa said that the basis of JD(S)-Congress alliance is “hunger, greed and power”, and hence this coalition will not last long. BJP is observing ‘anti-people’s mandate day’ to protest against the “unholy” tie-up. Before taking oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy visited Chamundi Temple, following which he addressed the media. Kumaraswamy said some media channels stated that he has taken a U-turn on promises related to farmers. However, he clarified that there is no change in his position on farm loan waiver. Meanwhile, the floor test, which was slated for Thursday, will now be held on Friday. The nomination for speakers will be done tomorrow.

The chief minister designate’s swearing-in ceremony will be attended by a galaxy of opposition leaders and chief ministers, a development that could plant seeds for a broad-based anti-BJP platform before the Lok Sabha polls next year. Kumaraswamy will be the second CM to take oath in Karnataka within a week, after BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa stepped down without facing the floor test on May 19 in the face of imminent defeat. Karnataka Congress president G Parameshwara will be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government. Parameshwara will the first Dalit to be appointed to the post in Karnataka, a move that could help the Congress woo the minority community ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha election. Of the 34-member cabinet, the grand old party will have 22 ministers and JD(S) 12. They will be sworn in after the floor test slated for Thursday. Kumaraswamy said he has invited Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, Chandrababu Naidu, KCR, Mamata Banerjee, Farooq Abdullah, Sitaram Yechury, Pinarai Vijayan and Tejaswi Yadav for the oath=taking ceremony.
