Kolkata: The alliance between the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered a setback on Saturday as the talks between the two parties on seat sharing during the forthcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls failed.
The polls, scheduled for May 30 would see both parties fighting each other in addition to the CPI-M.
On Saturday, the INC released its list of 88 candidates for Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections after the TMC refused to accept its demand for 51 seats. Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, which is also an ally of the UPA government at the centre was willing to concede only 25 seats to the Congress.
"We tried our best to keep the alliance but the TMC kept delayiing so we came out with our own list," said Congress leader Pradeep Bhattacharya.
The Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 115 seats.
