Hyderabad: Seeking to mount pressure on the high command over the Telangana issue, Congress MPs from the region will meet the party's core committee members in New Delhi on Sunday.
"The MPs are meeting on Sunday in Delhi. We will think of our strategy. We might meet the core committee members and we will give suggestions on what needs to be done. The situation is very critical given the ongoing non-cooperation movement. It might go out of hand if we do not act," Congress Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao told reporters here today. He hoped that an assurance to the Telangana supporters will come from the top leadership in about a month's time.
"The high command is seriously seized of the matter. It has come to the last stage. I hope some kind of an assurance or word would come on the issue in a month," he said.
A group of Congress MLAs and MLCs met at the residence of state Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy on Saturday on their return from New Delhi where they held discussions with several central leaders, including Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on the issue.
The Telangana Congress leaders have also decided to write a letter to the party high command explaining the current political developments in the region on the statehood issue and to take note of the ongoing non-cooperation agitation started by Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC), according to party sources.
Meanwhile, Keshav Rao, a die-hard supporter of Telangana statehood demand, claimed that the disruption of the Governor E S L Narasimhan's address to the joint session of state legislature by TRS and other members was being exaggerated.
There was no reference to the Telangana issue in the Governor's address, he pointed out.
"Governor's address was made on February 17. The non-cooperation agitation began on 17th and all the people (in Telangana) were on streets. There was not even a word (about Telangana)in his address," he added.
