Rahul Bose is one of the few actors in the entertainment industry, who has made his mark in both commercial and art films. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actor shared his thoughts on the ongoing divide between commercial stars and arthouse actors in the film industry. Bose explained that a star is typically someone who is accepted by the audience, regardless of their acting talent. However, he highlighted that simply having a famous name is not enough to draw audiences.
The Dil Dhadakne Do star explained that in the industry, many actors become known because of their interesting roles instead of their fame. He added that initially, people might get attracted towards a star, but they learn to appreciate the talent and skill of real actors with time.
The actor explained, “A star is someone, whom the audiences have accepted, regardless of their acting skills. But don’t get me wrong, many stars are fine actors. But when audiences come to watch stars like Tom Cruise, whether he is playing a Vietnam War veteran or a fighter pilot, nothing else matters but the charisma of that actor, which can transcend factors like script, performance and the role.”
“There is an established spectrum in the industry. So, people often think, ‘Oh this guy is not going to get people by name alone but he might draw people because his role is interesting.’ Accordingly, you might feel great after meeting the star, but when you’d meet the actor, you might come to appreciate them, even if a little late,” Rahul Bose added.
Throughout his career, Rahul has appeared in several popular films, including Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii, Bulbbul, Chameli, Pyaar Ke Side Effects and Jhankaar Beats, among others. However, in an earlier interview with The Indian Express, the actor shared that he doesn’t expect to land leading roles in big budget films.
Explaining the same, Rahul Bose believes that he doesn’t match the expectations of big production houses for expensive projects. He pointed out that filmmakers of big budget movies usually prefer well known stars, which makes it harder for him to be cast in those roles. From the start of his career until around 2012-2013, he often played lead parts, but he understood that his appearance might limit him in the industry. Despite the challenges, he’s thankful for being in the industry for 30 years and appreciates the opportunities he has received.
Rahul Bose is currently getting attention for his impressive performance in the film Berlin, where he stars alongside, Aparshakti Khurrana, Ishwaq Singh and Anupriya Goenka.
