Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh BJP unit on Tuesday stressed upon the need to extend the scope of CBI probe into the allegations of misuse of the state machinery during the tenure of former chief minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, to favour the firms owned by his son and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy.
There was a need to extend purview of the CBI probe as major government departments like irrigation, finance and industries have acted under pressure to provide benefits illegally to some firms owned by Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, state BJP spokesperson, NVSS Prabhakar, told on Tuesday.
On July 12, Andhra Pradesh High Court on a writ petition filed by Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao, directed the CBI to file a preliminary report into the allegations within two weeks.
On the directive of the high court, the apex investigating agency has taken up a probe into the allegations that Jagan misused the office of his father to get investments for his business empire from various beneficiary companies.
Various companies have under pressure invested in the firms, including Jagapathi Publication, owned by Jagan, Prabhakar said.
Asserting that TDP as well as some members of the ruling Congress have also demanded a CBI enquiry into the allegations of corruption against the Kadapa MP, Prabhakar said, the agency should also investigate the role of the
ministers who yielded under pressure during the rule of YS Rajasekhar Reddy.
Jagan got elected from Kadapa Lok Sabha seat in the bypoll held in May on YSR Congress Party ticket.
