New Delhi: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s bid to buy peace with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after her “rebellion” is in trouble.
Sources tell CNN-IBN BJP president Rajnath Singh is upset with Raje for trying to work out her own date for stepping down as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly.
Raje, early this month, refused to follow Rajnath’s instruction to resign as Leader of Opposition. She argued that she alone could not be blamed for the party’s defeat in the General Elections, which left it with four Lok Sabha seats compared to 21 in the 2004 polls.
She brought around 50 Rajashtan BJP MLAs to New Delhi to show her influence in the state. A compromise was worked out and it was decided on August 17 that Raje would resign at her timing, preferably after the session of the Rajasthan assembly gets over.
But after the BJP expelled senior leader Jaswant Singh for flouting the party ideology by writing a book on Pakistani leader M A Jinnah, it can't be seen applying two yardsticks.
Sources say that certain leaders in the party work if swift action can be taken against Jaswant, the same should done Raje Vasundhara too.
CNN-IBN’s National Bureau Chief Bhupendra Chaubey reports Rajnath is upset with Raje because he believes she is not fulfilling her part of the deal. Raje was to resign according to her timing and in return she was to be accommodated as a BJP general secretary or vice president in New Delhi.
Sources say Raje has told Rajnath and senior leader L K Advani that a person of her choice must be made Leader of Opposition. This is not acceptable to Rajnath.
