'Team India ko Wishes De Sakti Hu, Shami ko Nahi..': Estranged Wife Hasin Jahan's Shocking Statement

Mohammed Shami has been enjoying the form of his life in this ICC ODI World Cup, underway on home soil. Shami was not part of India’s playing eleven in the first four fixtures. Once given a chance, the 33-year-old pacer appeared at his devastating best. He has already picked 16 wickets in his four appearances in the marquee tournament.

Shami is currently India’s leading wicket-taker in the World Cup with 45 scalps under his belt. While the entire nation is all praise for the veteran fast-bowler, Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan seems not quite hyped about his achievements.

During a recent interview, Hasin Jahan was asked about her feelings on Mohammed Shami’s red-hot form in this World Cup. Instead of showing respect to the star India bowler, Jahan came up with a bizarre reply, recognising herself as “not a big fan of cricket.”

Jahan took it as a positive in some other ways. According to her, this performance will help Shami play longer for Team India, enabling the opportunity to earn more money. Jahan feels it will do nothing but secure the future of her and their daughter Aaira.

“Kuch bhi hai, accha perform kar raha hai. Accha khelega toh team main bana rahega. Achha kamayega toh humara bhavishya secure rahega [Whatever it is! He is performing well. If he does well, he will stay in the team. If he earns good, our future will remain secure],” Hasin Jahan said. She also refused to give her best wishes to Mohammed Shami, even though he can become key to India’s chances in the home World Cup.

Mohammed Shami got to meet Hasin Jahan in Kolkata while playing for West Bengal in domestic cricket. The couple tied the knot in 2014 and welcomed their first and only child Aairan next year in July. Their relationship turned bitter after Jahan accused the India cricketer of domestic violence, extra-marital affairs and match-fixing in 2019. She lodged a formal complaint at the Jadavpur police station and threatened to submit all the relevant proof for the charges.

After going through every piece of evidence, the Alipore Session Court issued an arrest warrant against Mohammed Shami in August 2019. After the cricketer challenged the order, Jahan took the matter to the Kolkata High Court. Four years have passed since the initial event was transpired. But the case has yet to get the final verdict from the Supreme Court.

The situation no doubt affected Shami’s career. Speaking about the match-fixing allegations, Shami had said, “I can die for my country but will never betray.” He had also tried to take custody of his daughter but the efforts went in vain.
