Steve Smith or Sachin Tendulkar? New Statue At Wankhede Stadium Has Fans Confused
Sachin Tendulkar's statue at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium reminds people of Steve Smith. Here is why.

As India geared up to battle against Sri Lanka in the ICC ODI World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, a special ceremony was held a day before for Sachin Tendulkar. A statue of the 50-year-old was unveiled at the venue in the presence of his family and other dignitaries. The statue, depicting a graceful lofted hit, has been installed adjacent to the Sachin Tendulkar stand. This stadium happens to be his home ground and venue where he realised his childhood dream of winning the world cup with India in 2011.

However, as images and videos of the statue surfaced on social media, many people pointed out that it looks more like Steve Smith than Tendulkar. “It is the Smith era and his impact. That’s why it looks like Smith’s sculpture. Maybe they made Steve instead of Sachin but it is the power of Smith,” wrote an ‘X’ user. Another person wrote, “No doubt, it looks like Steven Smith’s statue.”

Tendulkar still holds the record for most runs in international history having amassed a whopping 34357 runs across formats between 1989 and 2013. He also remains the only batter to have scored 100 centuries at the international level.
