Rahul Pandey worked as a tech lead and manager at Meta with a salary of more than Rs 6.5 crore a year. Despite such a good position and salary, Rahul quit his job in 2022. Speaking about his experience of working with Facebook in California, he explained that he struggled with anxiety. In a LinkedIn post, he said, “My journey was not a straight shot to counting $100 bills. In fact, for the first six months after I joined Facebook, I was extremely anxious. I felt imposter syndrome as a senior engineer, I struggled to adapt to the company’s culture and tooling.”
While speaking to Business Insider, he said that he was hesitant about asking for help at work. He thought that it would “out” him as someone who did not deserve to be a senior engineer.

Just a year after his joining Facebook began to struggle as a company. Also, the stocks tanked. “I had only been at the company for a year, though, so I felt it was too soon to jump ship. Instead, I made a concerted effort to improve my performance,” he said.
It was only after two years when Rahul was at the peak of his productivity. He built an internal tool that was adopted throughout the organisation. This ended up saving a lot of time for the engineers.

Later, he was promoted and he got about two crores of equity apart from the basic salary. This was again roughly some two crore rupees. However, due to Covid, Pandey started looking for alternative options. “I not only had the technical knowledge to complete my work, but I also had enough context to lead projects. This is a critical part of being a senior engineer and beyond (staff or principal engineer),” Pandey said.
