Shah Rukh Khan is currently basking in the success of his film Jawan, which was released in theatres one day ago on Thursday. However, even before the film was released, its high-density advanced bookings proved that Jawan frenzy had engulfed the country. The film’s initial shows were completely sold out in many parts of the country, including Kashmir. However, the actor once said that he has never visited Kashmir for a special, heartwarming reason.
In an earlier appearance on Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati, Shah Rukh revealed why he had never visited Kashmir. He said, “My father’s mother was Kashmiri. To unhone (father) mujhe zindagi mein bola tha teen jagah zaroor dekhna life mein, main rahun ya naa rahun. Ek Istanbul zaroor dekhna, ek Italy main Rome zaroor dekhna aur ek Kashmir hai zaroor dekhna. Lekin baaki do mere bina bhi dekh lena par Kashmir mere bina mat dekhna. (My father told me that in life, make sure you visit Istanbul, Rome and Kashmir at least once, whether I’m here or not. However, you can visit the other two without me, but don’t go to Kashmir without me).”

He added, “So he died very early. I have been all over the world lekin main Kashmir kabhi nahi gaya. Bohot saare mauke bhi mile, doston ne bohot bulaya, ghar wale chutti pe bhi gaye, par main Kashmir kabhi nahi gaya. Kyunki mere father ne kaha tha ki Kashmir mere bina mat dekhna, Kashmir main dikhaaunga.” (I had a lot of opportunities, my friends also called me over and my family even went there for a holiday. However, I never went to Kashmir because my father said that I shouldn’t go there without him, as he would take me).”
Some netizens pointed out that Shah Rukh had been to Kashmir to film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. One person wrote, “Dunno what was the date of this KBC episode but he did visit Kashmir with Yash Chopra when he was doing JTHJ shooting there back in 2011-12. He shot in Ladakh, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, next to Pangong Lake, Yousmarg, Moor Plains in Leh, etc.” However, others said that while Shah Rukh couldn’t go to Kashmir with his father, he went there with his “father figure” Yash Chopra.
It was also reported this year that Shah Rukh has shot for his upcoming film Dunki in Kashmir. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki will also star Taapsee Pannu in the lead. The film will mark Shah Rukh and Taapsee’s first pairing on screen. The film is scheduled to release in December this year.
